Our Five Sustainability Pillars Where Luxury Meets Sustainability

Design for the tropics not against it

We focus on using energy wisely, so you can enjoy a comfortable stay while helping us care for the climate. That’s why our shared spaces are shaped around tropical architecture principles that encourage natural airflow. In our guest rooms, where cooling is needed, we focus on reducing energy demands with:

  • Low-energy lighting
  • Reminders to switch off lights and AC when leaving rooms
  • Harnessing solar power that also feeds back into the national grid

Water stewardship : respect this precious resource

On our coastline, water is everywhere—and yet fresh water remains limited. That’s why we treat water as a resource to be managed carefully. Our practices include:

  • A processing system that treats greywater which is then used throughout our gardens
  • Inviting our guests to reuse linens, requesting changes only when needed. Less laundry means less water, less energy, and fewer chemicals—without compromising hygiene or comfort.

Waste and plastics : reduce first, then redesign what’s left

We compost organic waste on-site, turning clippings and sweepings into nutrient-rich compost used to support our gardens. All other waste is separated for recycling and responsible disposal. We choose to replace many single-use plastic items with longer-life alternatives, including:

  • Reusable glass bottles and refilling stations for drinking water
  • Glass bottles and paper packaging for meals for our guest day trips and excursions.
  • The use of paper packaging only in our boutique

Food that keeps value in the community

The produce we source and use is one of our most meaningful sustainability decisions, as we work with suppliers who share our ethos. With an array of international and Sri Lankan dishes, along with meat-free and vegan options, our menus prioritise fresh, local and seasonal ingredients.

Culture and Our Community

We offer our guests responsible, low-impact experiences such as cycling, lagoon safaris, and birdwatching, along with cultural visits to nearby sites and ancient temples, including the heritage-protected Samudragiri Viharaya.

We continue to support our community through daily beach clean-ups and local partnerships and projects, such as improving road access to the neighborhood school and providing classroom supplies.
